| First to Own - Product Review by Noel Cheok | |

| Plantronics has continued to raise the bar on the business Voyager series. The latest 815 has all the cues of well design, engineering and product improvements across the board. (At review - 18th Feb 08, still currently unavailable through mainstream technology stockiest/retailers in Australia) Bluetooth headsets are now evolving from large, chucky alien-looking over the ear designs to small, robust, versatile and ultra lightweight for "in ear-bud design". This not only improves the ease of putting on the headset on-demand, it also showcases improvements in chip and battery technology to allow for featherweight communication products. The Plantronics Voyager 815 builds on "in ear-bud design" whilst having the ability to add an attachment for "over the ear" support as an option. The significant improvement here is ultra lightweight, long talk time and multi-pairing technology allowing multiple cellular phones and/or sound audio devices from laptops to wireless streaming sources to be connected via Bluetooth simultaneously. Here are my clear distinctions. - Weight Lightweight is EVERYTHING in Bluetooth headsets, weighing in @ 14 grams on paper, its ultra feather light weight and is a statement of achievement in improvements on technology. - Fitment & Comfort With multiple ear buds to fit all sizes of ear canals, I can call this close to perfection for instant wearing when a phone call arrives whilst also provides transparent comfort when worn actively. The ear buds supplied are slightly hard and can take awhile of getting used to. This can be interchangeable with Sony Fontopia series replacement ear buds for a softer and more comfortable seamless fit and wear improvement. - Speech & Clarity DSP, and AudioIQ logic implemented by Plantronics technology certainly produce close to crystal clear mono sound quality. There was a slight buzz distort when paired with my E90 Communicator. If there was no BT RF interference, this would no doubt be a given winner. - Performance with the reduced weight, it didnt came the reduced battery life or talk time. Most certainly, this aspect covers the same fundamental principal of weight being a critical benchmarking quality in Bluetooth headsets and Im happy to report, the performance life is on par with heavier headsets providing severely long talk and standby times. Most certainly, lithium-ion battery technology has improved in harmony by manufacturing standards. The only complain I have, is the glossy black plastic design of the headset is prone to fingerprint smudges which can be easily forgotten as an aesthetic imbalance. Plantronics has done well in further releasing improved Bluetooth solution products. There aren’t many headsets around with the weight and advanced technology in current market with an affordable price tag across competing grey/parallel importers for an average of AUD$60 - $70 with the aid of some basic smart goggling ) | |
